MUSUBI -Keisho Nihongo-

About Us

MUSUBI is a Heritage Japanese Language Education Group operating as a part of the Language School committee under the umbrella of Japan America Society of Iowa (JASI).

Our Mission

Our goals are…

1. to create connections through Japanese language learning for children living outside of Japan

2. to function as a platform for the guardians in our group

3. to function as a platform for the supporters of other local grassroots Keishougo* groups like MUSUBI

Based in Iowa, USA, MUSUBI serves as a community where children and parents from both within and outside the state come together to support each other.

*What we call ‘Keishougo’ is different from ‘mother tongue’ or ‘foreign language’ in the language education field. MUSUBI is the group for Keishougo kids and their guardians or supporters.

Our Activities

We are running both 'In-person activities’ and ‘online activities’ using Zoom.

In-person: Classes are held on weekend mornings (3 hours). To use our strength of meeting in person, we learn many things through physical experiences. We also try to connect with people in Iowa to cultivate their social skills based in Iowa. The curriculum is based on the Ministry of Japan’s course of study(学習指導要領) but adapted to fit the needs of the children living in the United States.

Online: By making the small interest groups, we are meeting regularly on Zoom. Please visit our website to see the details.

Others: ・Holding annual events within the groups ・Participating events held by JASI ・Doing collaborative activities with other Keishougo groups ・Holding ‘study group’ for Keishougo-group teachers: For our networking to cultivate the Japanese education environment for heritage Japanese learners living outside of Japan. Please join our Mailing List!
